Communication can feel easy and natural in some situations, but confusing or unexpected in others β especially when people come from different cultural, linguistic, educational, or social backgrounds.
Think about a moment when you noticed communication differences in real life. This could involve:
- speaking with someone from another culture,
- participating in an online interaction,
- traveling,
- studying or working with international classmates or colleagues,
- misunderstanding humor or politeness,
- noticing differences in gestures, silence, directness, or expectations,
- or even realizing differences within your own culture or community.
In Your Post
Please share:
1. A Brief Description of the Situation
What happened?
2. What Felt Different?
What communication behavior, expectation, or reaction stood out to you?
3. How Did You Interpret the Situation at the Time?
Did it feel confusing, interesting, awkward, respectful, surprising, etc.?
4. Looking Back, What Might Explain the Difference?
You do NOT need to use technical terminology yet β simply reflect on possible cultural, contextual, or communicative differences.
