Think about behaviors that you personally associate with politeness or respect in communication.
Examples might include:
- greeting styles,
- eye contact,
- punctuality,
- tone of voice,
- directness,
- thanking,
- interrupting,
- silence,
- or disagreement.
In your post, do the following:
- Describe 2–3 communication behaviors you consider polite.
- Explain where you think these expectations come from.
- Reflect on how someone from another background might interpret these behaviors differently.
In your responses to your peers' posts, you are highly encouraged to:
- compare similarities and differences,
- discuss surprising interpretations,
- and reflect on how politeness changes across contexts.
