This activity has 5 steps:

  1. Level Selection: Take the News in Levels reading test to determine your starting point.
  2. Article Selection: Choose an article that interests you from News in Levels, selecting your appropriate level.
  3. Active Reading: Practice these reading skills: 
    • Skimming - briefly look over the story before reading it. Identify repeated words. Translate these words using DeepL or Google Translate
    • Predicting - based on the words you identified, predict what you think the story is about, paying attention to the setting, dialogue, and any action words you identified 
  4. Read the story - Read the whole story, using DeepL or Google Translate to help. Note the details and compare them to your predictions!
  5. Vocabulary Review: Add the new words to Brainscape, and review
