Activity Instructions
Imagine you are participating in an intercultural interaction. Choose ONE of the situations below and write a short dialogue (6–10 lines).
Your dialogue should demonstrate:
- speech acts,
- politeness strategies,
- direct or indirect communication,
- intercultural pragmatic awareness.
Situation Options
Option A — Workplace Request
An employee needs help from a busy colleague.
Option B — Academic Communication
A student disagrees respectfully with a professor during discussion.
Option C — Invitation and Refusal
A friend invites someone to an event, but the person cannot attend.
Option D — Group Project Disagreement
International students disagree about how to complete a project.
After Posting
Respond to at least two classmates:
- Identify the speech acts used.
- Comment on politeness strategies.
- Suggest alternative wording if appropriate.
- Discuss how the interaction might change in another cultural context.
