Section outline
In this week’s materials, we explored the idea that communication involves more than grammar and vocabulary. Meaning is often shaped by context, tone, relationships, cultural expectations, and implied intention.
Think about a time when:
- someone misunderstood your meaning,
- you misunderstood another person,
- or a message had a different meaning depending on the situation or culture.
Describe the situation briefly and reflect on the following questions:
- What caused the misunderstanding or difference in interpretation?
- Did context influence meaning?
- Were there cultural, social, or communication-style differences involved?
- How could the communication have been improved?
You may discuss examples from:
- school or university,
- workplace communication,
- online communication,
- multilingual interaction,
- travel experiences,
- or everyday social situations.
