    Grade 5 Mathematics Term 2 is aligned with the South African CAPS curriculum and focuses on strengthening learners' understanding of core mathematical concepts through progressive, skills-based learning. This course develops problem-solving and critical thinking skills through practical activities, mental mathematics, investigations, and real-life applications.

     

    Learners are encouraged to participate actively and develop mathematical reasoning, while building confidence in applying mathematical concepts accurately and meaningfully.

    •      Apply multiplication and division strategies fluently, including with 2-digit numbers

    •      Understand, compare, and work with common fractions and decimal fractions

    •      Identify and describe properties of 2D shapes and 3D objects, including angles and symmetry

    •      Calculate perimeter and area of rectangles and squares using appropriate formulae

    •      Measure and convert units of time, mass, length, and capacity in real-life contexts

    •      Identify, extend, and describe number and geometric patterns

    •      Collect, organise, represent, and interpret data using graphs and tables

    •      Communicate mathematical thinking clearly using correct terminology
