Activity: Everyday English Scenarios – Listen and Respond
Objective:
- Improve listening skills and practical vocabulary for common scenarios.
- Practice responding to real-life conversations in English.

Duration:

Instructions:

Setup in Poodll MiniLesson:
- Select or upload short audio clips that cover everyday scenarios such as:
- Shopping (e.g., asking for prices, availability of items).
- Asking for Directions (e.g., how to get to the nearest bus stop).
- Ordering Food (e.g., placing an order at a café).
- Making Appointments (e.g., scheduling a doctor’s visit).
- Each clip should be 30-60 seconds to keep the activity focused.
- Select or upload short audio clips that cover everyday scenarios such as:

Pre-Listening Warm-up:
- Briefly introduce the context of each scenario. For example, “Today, you will hear a short conversation in a store where someone is asking about an item.”
- Review key vocabulary or phrases students may encounter, like “How much does it cost?” or “Could you help me find...?”

Listening Task:
- Play each clip twice.
- Ask students to listen carefully and take note of specific information, such as the direction given or the item being requested in the clip.

Comprehension Check:
- After each audio clip, provide a set of comprehension questions in Poodll MiniLesson. For example:
- “What item does the person ask about?”
- “What directions were given to reach the bus stop?”
- “What food item does the person order?”
- Use a mix of multiple-choice and short-answer questions to test understanding.

Follow-up Activity: Role-play Practice:
- Instruct students to practice a brief role-play based on the scenario.
- Pair students in breakout rooms (or use Poodll’s recording features) where one student is the customer or person asking questions, and the other is the helper (store assistant, barista, etc.).

- Have students share what they found challenging or interesting about each scenario.
- Discuss cultural differences in how people interact in such situations in English-speaking countries versus their own.
Assessment:
- Evaluate student comprehension through the MiniLesson responses.
- Provide feedback on role-play performance focusing on fluency, pronunciation, and appropriateness of expressions used.
Extensions:
- Add follow-up scenarios or additional role-play exercises based on students’ interests.
- Include more specific language functions such as polite requests, clarifying information, or expressing gratitude.
